Food Drive before Mega Festival

In a heartwarming gesture of compassion and community spirit, the Grassroot Literacy Foundation distributed biriyani food packets to children living on the streets of Kolkata. The initiative, held just days before the Durga Puja festival, brought smiles and joy to the faces of these underprivileged children.

The distribution event took place at multiple locations across the city, targeting areas where footpath-dwelling children often go hungry. Volunteers from the Foundation worked tirelessly to ensure that every child received a delicious and wholesome meal. The sight of the children’s happiness as they received their biriyani packets was truly uplifting.

Sandiip K. Manna, the Secretary and Founder of Grassroot Literacy Foundation, shared the motivation behind the initiative: “Durga Puja is a time of celebration and togetherness. However, for many children living on the streets, it’s a reminder of their hardships. Through this effort, we aimed to bring a little joy to their lives and make them feel included in the festivities.”

The Foundation’s volunteers ensured the smooth execution of the event by preparing and distributing the food in a well-organized manner. In addition to the food packets, the children were also engaged in light-hearted conversations and games, creating a festive atmosphere that resonated with the spirit of Durga Puja.

Souvik Karmakar, President of the Foundation, emphasized the importance of such initiatives: “Food is not just a necessity; it’s a symbol of care and connection. This event was a small effort to share the joy of the festive season with those who need it the most.”

The children’s delight was palpable as they enjoyed their meals, with many expressing their gratitude through laughter and cheerful smiles. The initiative also inspired onlookers and local residents to contribute to the Foundation’s ongoing efforts.

Grassroot Literacy Foundation continues to lead by example in fostering community support for underprivileged groups. Their commitment to uplifting the lives of those in need, particularly children, remains unwavering. With this thoughtful gesture, they have not only filled empty stomachs but also lit up countless hearts ahead of the grand Durga Puja celebration.
